Five years after the original, the Slow Mo Guys returned to paint on a speaker with two cameras they had not used before, lent by Hasselblad and Vision Research. The recording frame rate is high enough that much of the footage is played back at double speed, and this was their first video presented at 50 fps playback.
The extra frame rate shows things the 2013 version could not: the way multiple colours stay separate as sheets before they break into drops, and the fine ripples travelling across the surface of the paint on the cone. It is still a spectacle rather than an explanation.
For our purposes the interesting comparison is between the two videos: what a factor of five in frame rate reveals about the same set-up. That is a good argument for a proper high-speed camera over a phone's slow-motion mode when documenting a rig.
